About the Image(s)

iPhone XS Max, 1/6400 sec, f/1.8, ISO 25.

This is another panorama I shot with the iPhone (2019 model 10). I am impressed with the quality of their stitching software. At 83 years of age, my hands are not that steady anymore, but the software in that phone disregards any shaking of that kind. I wish my Sony cameras had built-in panorama software that was that good.

Tom, This is a fabulous photo. The composition is terrific, with the bridge acting as a leading line. The pedestrians on the bridge help to add scale. I love the shadow the bridge makes in the water. The sharpness, colors, exposure and textures are great. Why is the image so sharp from foreground to background at f 1/8?   Posted: 09/04/2022 21:13:22

The f-stop of the phone is f/1.8, not f/8, which explains it, I think.   Posted: 09/07/2022 13:57:33

Tom, when I saw this I immediately called my sister to the computer to look. We both had good experiences in Porto. I have just read your comments to discover that you took this with your iPhone. This is one of the best images I have seen in a long time!
I agree with all the comments posted by Susan Albert.

Tom, the quality of the cameras of the iPhone are getting better by the day. I heard in apple rumors that the camera for the iPhone 14 (this September) will have 48 megapixels camera with 8k recording. Great vantage point showing lots of detail of the landscape including the bridge, the Douro river and the city, not to mention the cloudy blue sky. Lots of detail in the buildings as well. I just took the image to ACR and clicked on the auto slider that gave some light to the shadows and decreased slightly the brightness   Posted: 09/06/2022 14:02:14

Hi Tom - This is an interesting image. However, I find the land on the upper left side distractingly dark. The bridge with the people visible walking is a really nice element. Where did you take the picture from?   Posted: 09/07/2022 15:24:23

The city of Porto is on the north side of the Douro River and is shown in the distance. The picture is taken from the Jardim do Morro, a fortification one a steep hill that rises straight from the river. There is a cablecar one can take from the embankment. It's a popular place at sunset.   Posted: 09/08/2022 12:06:58

Tom, again, this is a great example of composition. The diagonal line leads to the main subject.   Posted: 09/08/2022 06:50:30

An excellent image of Porto Tom, the shadow of the bridge and the light glistening on the river on the other side of that bridge really make this image "sing"!   Posted: 09/22/2022 15:51:48
