About the Image(s)

Gear: Canon 5dSR 1/400, F3.2 ISO 100

Date: 1/10/2018
Place: Myanmar Began Market

The Began Market opens only on Sunday, I think it is like a fleamarket to me where the products were sold by the nearby farmers. Those women in black were from Akha tribe in China, they walked a long distance to buy some Burmese goods.

Pam, Your image has a strong composition, where the main subject is a group of three. I usually find a clipped off person a distraction, but in your photo, the person on the right with their hand in the bag adds a lot of interest for me. You captured a wonderful expression on the center woman's face. I do find the saturation to be a bit much.   Posted: 09/04/2022 21:24:20

Susan, Thanks a lot for the comments. I actually desaturated this image. It was taken on a sunny noon time, and it was too bright.   Posted: 09/08/2022 06:53:23

To pick up on Susan's comment, in a market scene like this there is rarely a situation where you don't crop somebody out, that's part of the bustle. I might even go further as shown, because the bright area on the right is more distracting than the cropped person, and it tightens the focus on the group itself. That is the great part of this image: the three women caught in the midst of the action, with the produce and the hands all there and the pile of peanuts in the front. The image seems a little oversaturated. Great photograph!   Posted: 09/08/2022 13:29:03

Pamela, your vantage point brings all the attention to the faces of the three women bargaining for goods. The outfits are very specific for each ethnic group which helps us identify them. The image is sharp, but looks oversaturated. I agree with Tom's crop   Posted: 09/15/2022 06:19:26

I too agree with Tom`s suggesed trim - you having to desaturate does not surprise me, the colours of attire - especially on women, in Burmese markets was an absolute treat for colour photographers.   Posted: 09/22/2022 15:56:59
