In Venice Italy, looking across the Grand Canal to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore and its church of the same name. Gondolas grace the waterfront. I was teaching for Penn State in Florence Italy for three weeks and had an opportunity to visit Venice for a few days.

This is a lovely photo! The deep blue of the boats and the water is striking, and I love the contrast with the yellows and oranges of the background. The only suggestion might be to slightly lighten the boats so they are not quite so dark. I'd have to see that to see if that makes the image better or not. Posted: 04/08/2024 00:27:57
Laurie, I downloaded the image into Photoshop and checked the exposure of the foreground via histogram. It's not significantly underexposed. The boats are in the shadow and the blue sky enhances the blue of the tarps. That is a nice color contrast to the lighter colors in the background and the red boat on the left. What a nice photo of the gondolas. I took a photo of those gondolas from the same location and my image is very dark on the boats. The boats are in shadow from the buildings that are directly in front of them, whereas the buildings in background are well-lit by the sun. You were able to bring out the blue color and definition of the boats and the water arounnd. Well done! Posted: 04/13/2024 20:47:13
