About the Image(s)

Sony A1, Sony 24-105 mm @ 46mm, 1/160, f/7.1, ISO 125

My wife and I visited Cuba a month ago. Havana is a really interesting place, mixture of past glory and contemporary neglect and poverty. Great photographic opportunities.

And you certainly found a great one (photographic opportunity)! This is a great image. The green door frames this musician, who has a wonderful face. The crutches with the flag on them adds to the picture and emphasizes both that it's in Cuba and also that the man has lost a leg. Even his belongings behind him, with that old hat, add to the impression that he is poor and in need of whatever money people put in that hat. Great job!   Posted: 04/08/2024 00:39:34

I like the expression on the guitarist's face, you caught him singing and he's not looking directly at the camera. The composition is well done, the Cuban flag indicates the location. Without the flag, would one guess it's a photo taken somewhere in Latin America or the Caribbean? Or could it just as easily have been taken in Italy or somewhere in Spain?   Posted: 04/08/2024 10:08:12

The image of the man with the guitar is so striking. Then, there is the realization that he has lost a leg. I like the color of the door and the fact that there is the Cuban flag to give a sense of place.   Posted: 04/13/2024 20:59:06

This is street photography 101. Whenever I see these pictures I see poverty, poverty here (even in Cuba) is much less compared to what you see in India...there those are desperate poor they have no possession...they are born on the street , live and die on the street. For this photo what I can see is his respectability, his pride and his endeavor to earn a honest living.
This photo has a meaning when we include the context. Good Work.   Posted: 04/14/2024 07:47:33

I recommend you go to IDG 4 and read the review the AI Chatbot GPT4 wrote about this image. Pamela Liu sent it in.   Posted: 04/24/2024 15:25:22

Read it. ChatGPT critique do not have that personal touch and emotional response to photo. I personally think that is important. It used pointers in the photo and narrate something with broad links within the histoey and context of the photo.   Posted: 04/27/2024 11:40:04
