Submerged Varanasi Temple by Pinaki Sarkar

April 2024 - Submerged Varanasi Temple

About the Image(s)

Technical:
F2.8,1/320,ISO 5000, 140 mm, +0.7 , Denoised through Topaz

Background:

Varanasi is a temple town , almost at every turn of the street there is a temple.
If you are near the river Ganges then the density of the temples increases. This photo is of a submerged temple, don't really know the histroy of this one.

However , I do remember that , 15 years ago when I visited the city, I saw this temple submerged even more, there was a flood on the Ganges that year and I was there during the monsoon season.

Lovely photo! I like the light coming from above, on the temple and into the water. There is so much light on the water that I'm wondering where it's coming from - seems more than could be coming from the light that we see above it. There's so much to see in this photo - my eyes go to all the many people around. I'm wondering if you could have used dehaze to bring out the surroundings a bit more.   Posted: 04/08/2024 00:47:19

That's the thing about India. The frames are always busy. I generally try to keep it that way ,in some way it reflects India.   Posted: 04/08/2024 16:49:51

This is a really fascinating photo, the submerged temple is stunning. I like the composition very much, and technically it appears like everything is in focus. I would suggest lightening the exposure a bit, or playing with shadows and highlights, and it also seems like the boat is not level, it is angled downward toward the left. Straightening the horizontals should take care of that.   Posted: 04/08/2024 10:22:56

You have captured a wonderful image of India. I've never been there but your photo has so much atmosphere. The submerged temple is very interesting. I do wish that it was not quite so misty. Perhaps, turning up the clarity, just a bit?   Posted: 04/13/2024 21:04:46

The preview image appears to be a boat pulling a building (temple) up and down, but upon closer inspection, it appears that the temple has sunk and tilted. Overall, there seems to be an uneven composition, but this has increased the interest in this image   Posted: 04/23/2024 02:26:02
