Memorial Amphitheater by Phyllis Peterson

July 2024 - Memorial Amphitheater

About the Image(s)

Camera Used: Apple iPhone 11
Settings: 1/1000 sec, f/2/4 ISO 50
Lighting: natural
No tripod or filters

This past spring, I was touring the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier recently at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

I saw the Memorial Amphitheater just before everyone arrived and it filled with people. I liked the pillars, the American Flags andthe curved rows of seats that I could see. I liked the lines of the building and the color of the marble.

Great shot. Did you do a panorama on this? Or does the iPhone 11 have a wide angle lens? I like the way the light comes through the flags, and the interesting sky. And of course the curved line of the memorial are just great.   Posted: 07/11/2024 14:07:21

Not a panorama. And if the iPhone 11 has wide angle lens, I don't know about it. I think I just rotated the photo sideways. And I edited it in Lightroom to increase the exposure/definition in the columns. Thanks!   Posted: 07/11/2024 16:54:35

Love the curved line. You need to be very creative or find an interesting angle and you found one here. Also there is balance between the light in the sky and within the building. I don't like the dustbin though. Great shot.   Posted: 07/11/2024 15:15:17

Yes, I just noticed that dustbin. It's gotta go. Thanks!   Posted: 07/11/2024 16:54:15

John and I were there not too long ago and were impressed by the amphitheater. You found an angle that makes it really stand out architecturally. And the flags...I don't think they were there when we visited. Just remember that you can't remove pixels if you are entering this in photo travel competitions. But I think it might do well anyhow. Also a good fit with a PID color architecture theme.   Posted: 07/12/2024 07:40:20

Flags were there for the Memorial Day event which took place just after the pictures. People were just starting to arrive. Thanks for the comments and the "removing pixels" reminder!   Posted: 07/12/2024 09:50:29

The flags definitely makes this into an interesting image. Nice lighting and I like the lone person in the image. The trash bin needs to go either by cropping or moving to the left.   Posted: 07/21/2024 19:31:37
