Kitchen at Hampton Court by Phyllis Peterson

April 2025 - Kitchen at Hampton Court

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at Hampton Court in England.
This was the Palace that was built by Cardinal Wolsey in early 16th century but was taken over as the living space of King Henry VIII. This kitchen has been set up to show
how it would have looked in the 16-17th century.
This photo was taken in May of 2019.

Camera: Nikon D300s and the lens was Nikkor 18-105 mm.
Settings: 1/60 sec at f/5.0, ISO 2000 at 18mm.
Handheld, no flash.

Editing in Lightroom. My edits were to lighten the shadows and increase the clarity.

Nice composition. You have the verticals and horizontals aligned correctly. I like the golden aura of the scene. I wonder if such an image would do well in competition? Is a kitchen too generic even if it is very old? What do people think?   Posted: 04/20/2025 19:43:55

Nice image from the side. Overall, the image has a golden hue. I would work on the top left corner exposure a it.   Posted: 04/27/2025 21:14:42

I also like the golden aura of this image. It give me a nice warm feeling. My preference is for an image like this to be taken at ground level rather than looking down from above. I am not sure that I see this image as fitting the Photo Travel definition.   Posted: 04/28/2025 07:47:53

It is a nice, warm image. I like how the kitchen is arranged. You can see the wood-fired stove and the pile of chopped logs ready to use.
This is a European kitchen style. To me, It should qualify as a photo travel image. It will depend on whether the jury will give a high score or not.   Posted: 04/29/2025 19:18:51

This is a beautiful scene with that warm glow. I like the perspective from the right, but I think it might do better at ground level and perhaps closer to see the objects better. I'm not sure that it would fit into a travel competition though.   Posted: 04/30/2025 00:36:05
