Pilgrim at Kumbh Mela by Laurie Bergner

April 2025 - Pilgrim at Kumbh Mela

About the Image(s)

At India's Kumbh Mela congregation, there were millions of pilgrims everywhere. There were many bridges going into the main area.

Here a pilgrim is putting out her sari, perhaps to dry it.

So much color in this image. What I like about it is that she is standing next to the water scene which tells the viewer about the area. Also, the woman's face and clothing tells a lot about her and the others. The one suggestion I would made would be to capture the woman next to her in full. I would rather see her than so much of colorful cloth. It's hard to tell that it is a sari.

I agree with Phyllis that the composition should not have cut off the woman on the left. Without your description I would not have known that it is a sari. I do like the expression on the woman's face and the sense of movement of the people behind her.   Posted: 04/20/2025 19:49:12
