In March 2025 John and I toured Utah National Parks and enjoyed a photography tour at Arches National Park. Here, you see the Balanced Rock lit up by the sun and the La Sal Mountains in the background. Later the mountains light up and the rocks are in shadow.

I like your composition, with the main subject, the Balanced Rock, lit up by the sun, positioned 1/3 of the image as the foreground, smaller orange rock hills as the midground, and dark brown La Sal Mountains with snowcap as the background. What a pleasant contrast of colors.
For me, I will crop out the little black shadow on the left of the midground, the Orange Rock Hill.   Posted: 05/10/2025 23:31:17

Good suggestion on the shadow. Will do.   Posted: 05/17/2025 20:23:08

The interplay of colors is both bold and harmonious. The warm, earthy tones of the red sandstone contrast strikingly with the cool, crisp whites of the snow-capped mountains in the background. This deliberate collision of warm and cool hues not only draws the eye but also creates a dynamic tension that invites viewers to linger and ponder the forces at work over millennia. The partially cloudy sky adds another layer of complexity, offering subtle variations in light and shadow that enhance both depth and texture in the scene.

From a compositional standpoint, the decision to center the balanced rock against a sweeping, expansive backdrop is superb.

There is a thoughtful layering in the image.

Pinaki, I suspect you make your critiques via Chat GPT. They are interesting but perhaps you should let us know whether it's you or AI.   Posted: 05/28/2025 16:55:19

This rock is so stunning against the backdrop of the La Sal Mountains. Plus, your focus on the balanced rock is so good, it makes the rock more interesting because you can see all the detail in the rock base. Very nice!   Posted: 05/18/2025 18:03:37

Yes, this is a beautiful image and I am looking forward to seeing it with some wards. The only thing I might do is to go around with the shadows brush and brush a couple of the dark areas to bring out the detail of the large part of balance rock.   Posted: 05/20/2025 08:03:30

Nothing to add. I always thought this rock is called Thor's hammer.   Posted: 05/28/2025 16:55:57
