August 2025 - Balinese Temple Dancer

About the Image(s)

Included in fhe must-sees in Bali are the masked dances performed in the temples and various other venues. Some of the dances are based on ancient Hindu Scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Mahabharata. These epics tell the stories of kings, gods, battles, wars, conquests, betrayals and the fight between good and evil. The dancers wear traditional costumes, some wear masks and finger nail extensions which accentuate their slow rhythmic movements. The dance is accompanied by a gamelan orchestra that consists of gongs, bells and other percussion and wind instruments.

The dancer is so well focused even though he is moving. Such a vibrant subject, really grabs your eye. The musicians in the background were nicely out-of-focus and in the dark so as to not take attention away from the dancer, but support the story of the photo.   Posted: 08/10/2025 23:51:51
