December 2025 - Beavertail Lighthouse

Why I took this image:
In June Carolyn and I made another trip to Newport to try and see some of the things we missed the last time we were there. The lighthouse itself is unique because it is rectangular in shape as opposed to being round like most lighthouses. It also had a very nice rocky beach which is mostly what attracted me to it. It is listed as America’s third oldest lighthouse.

Post processing:
Normal Lightroom color adjustments. Sharpening and noise reduction using Topaz AI.’

Beautiful photo of the lighthouse. The red roofs of the Lighthouse buildings draw you eye to the lighthouse itself. Plus the grasses and rocks have nice curving lines and have contrast.
You can even see some surf on the right hand side. Well done!

Seems to me Flat midday light, technically clean, but seems to me lacks tonal depth, minimal foreground interest, compressed horizon, sky is clear but lacks clouds, common angle almost like stock imagery Posted: 12/14/2025 17:16:48

I like the layers in the photo: the grayish brown rocky shoreline, the greenish brown fauna, the whitish lighthouse with red roofs, and the foggy overcast sky, although it's more blue than I captured with my camera. Nice capture. Posted: 12/21/2025 19:32:57
