January 2025 - Guggenheim Bilbao
About the Image(s)
This photo was captured with my OM 1 Mark 2 in hand held high resolution mode at 1/250 sec, f8, iso 250 and 15 mm (12-40 f2.8). The high resolution was a new technique for me. I do not shoot much architecture and welcome any suggestions.
The photo was imported into LR. The camera profile was changed to camera vivid to offset the cloudy day. The sky was also dehazed slightly. Most of the other settings remained on auto.
The Guggenheim in Bilbao Spain is beautiful on the outside and equality fascinating on the inside.

I really like this unique and visually striking building. You choose an interesting angle from an elevated viewpoint to shoot the structure. (I have previously seen low angle shots of the museum). The river and the walkways act as leading lines, guiding the viewer's eye towards the museum and the surrounding buildings and mountains emphasize the structure's presence and architectural significance. The only thing I changed is the saturation of the colors, orange and yellow, increased a stop.   Posted: 01/04/2025 16:05:01
I appreciate your comments. The background is clearly more bright. Your edit has more pop. Thank you!

I also admire your composition. I'm not familiar with the building, so I don't know if it's possible to include the entire left side as well, but it does feel slightly incomplete. Given your expertise in composition I suspect it isn't realistic to include the other end of the building. I do like the angle from the sky.
My initial thoughts were identical to Rizwan's, and I made a similar edit before I saw what he had posted. My other thought was that the water in the river is exceptionally golden, making it look oversaturated and gives the entire image a very monotone effect aside from the sky. I don't know if the water is truly that color- normally I would expect it to be white or gray with a sky like this one. In my edit I brought the tone left, reduced the Highlights and increased the Blacks to make it less prominent within the guidelines.
The one other change I made was to take down the bright rooftop, I may have overdone that a bit.

I ought to have included the photo as taken which is below. I was unable to take any more left because that was the bridge on which I was standing. Perhaps I could have gone to the other side of the river.
I looked at my processing history and did see that I had changed the camera profile to vivid. Not sure where but photo was over cooked.

I am familiar with the building and love your angle. The right side is cropped perfectly but I too wonder what the left side of the building looks like and why it was excluded, although I'm sure there were reasons. A polarizer lens may have taken some of the sheen off the water but I like the highlights on the metallic building so it may not have worked. Just a thought. I'm happy with the color and saturation as it is but what a view you would've had on a sunny day!   Posted: 01/06/2025 14:25:57
Please see above original photo. I may get some sheen off the water in post.
Maybe it is too weird of angle and I belong on the other side of the river. Thank you!   Posted: 01/06/2025 16:41:49

FYI, someone on group 5 had a very different shot of the same bldg if you're interested.   Posted: 01/13/2025 22:25:50
We walked on the same bridge! This photo is from a few feet farther down the sidewalk. Thank you for sharing!   Posted: 01/14/2025 03:32:22
