March 2025 - Modern Christmas in Piazza di Spagna
About the Image(s)
I was in Rome, my original hometown, strolling with my sisters in early December.
It is so challenging to take photos in Rome as I feel it is very hard to add a new or interesting angle. In this image, they had just put up a modern version of a Christmas tree and to me it seemed it gave a different look to the view of the Spanish Steps. Also the sky was so blue. I wish I had light on all of the modern tree.
Shot with Canon R5 handheld.
39 mm (RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM)
1/400 sec at f/16 ISO400
In Lightroom adjusted whites and blacks slightly.

This was a very nice visit with your sisters. Now I wish you had included them in the foreground! My preference when taking photos of buildings is to get the sensor perpendicular to the building. This will take out the distortion created by the angle. You can crop out unwanted foreground. Here I want to see more foreground even though it is in the shadows.
Another idea is to shoot a panoramic in portrait mode. The resulting stitched image can be cropped to whatever you wish.
These are just ideas to try out. I enjoy the image as taken.   Posted: 03/02/2025 07:36:49
