September 2025 - QUIET INFINITY
About the Image(s)
I took this image in a very hazy and cloudy day in Provincetown bay in Cape Cod.
The sky and the sea blurred into an endless gray.
It gave me a sense of melancholy, calm, and infinity.
And the Long Point lighthouse and the galleon passing by was sort of dreamlike.
Shot with Canon R5.
300 mm (lens RF 100-500 F 4.5-7.1 L IS USM)
1/160 sec at f/22 ISO 160 with tripod

I like the concept and the moody result, but don't think you need so much blank sky. I would crop the photo in half if it were mine.   Posted: 09/01/2025 16:09:56
Thanks Leslie, I agree with you.
I tried but I thought it
Looked very elongated if I want to fit both
Lighthouse and boat.   Posted: 09/01/2025 16:36:26

I am a fan of minimalist photography. I like the tension between the sailing ship and the lighthouse. The horizon line is not horizontal and that angle creates the exact tension that the photograph wants to eliminate to create that sense of calm. I like consistency of color and tone. The color white has a special place in minimalism suggesting lightness by exposure short of clipping and by low contrast. Toward this end I increased the exposure one stop and lowered the contrast a lot. I push both clarity and vibrance to get what I interpet as a cleaner look. I am not a fan of f22 as the light refracts off the aperature blades and creates a less sharp image. My suggestion is to shoot at f8-11 for this kind of photos unless you have a vey good reason not to. I like the composition a lot.   Posted: 09/01/2025 17:25:05
