February 2026 - Harvesting the Sky
About the Image(s)
ISO 200, f/11, 1/500s. Shot at 70mm with Tamron 24-70mm Lens on a Nikon D850. This image was shot in Australia close to Melbourne, during my visit in November 2025. I got an opportunity to climb up a tower and take this shot.

I like windmills and the idea of harvesting the sky leads me to a much lower shutter speed to actually show the movement of the blades. The clouds in the sky are quite dark making me wonder if this is natural. The composition is nice and I would wish for a bit more space and the right of the windmills. The exposure seems a bit dark to me and there is a blue cast to the image. These are preferenes and may have been your intent. I give you credit for climbing up so high to get this image.   Posted: 02/09/2026 15:10:20
Hi Richard, thanks for the great analysis. I tried long exposure but I couldn't keep my tripod steady due to strong winds in the area. But yes I agree that would give a better feel to the image. My intent was to show the 3D nature of the clouds, that's the reason I kept the clouds dark and sky bluish. I think this image might work in PTD World in Focus.   Posted: 02/10/2026 07:29:15
I'm off to Australia tomorrow. I'll look for your windfarm. Can't believe you climbed one of those, they are huge. It would be interesting to see the spinning idea, but I like the white, static blades against the green countryside also. The cyan sky color could be toned down a little. I would crop off some of the top to feature the main group of clouds.   Posted: 02/09/2026 20:48:28
Hi Leslie, you're going to love Australia! It's a beautiful country with amazing flora and fauna. This photo is from Buninyong, near Ballarat (about an hour from Melbourne). If you climb the watchtower at the top of the hill, you get a clear view of the many wind farms in the area rising above the vegetation. It's a great spot! Thanks for the cropping suggestion I will try that.   Posted: 02/10/2026 07:19:07
