About the Image(s)
Shot at ISO 100, f/8, 1s on a Nikon D850 with a Tamron 24–70mm, this photo shows the Hong Kong skyline from Victoria Harbour at night. The long exposure turns the water into bright, colorful reflections from the city lights, and a layer of fog softens the buildings in the background. No doubt it was one of the busiest spots in Hong Kong.

We love Hong Kong and lived in mid levels from 2005 to 2007. Yes this view from the Kowloon side is iconic. You have chosen a very difficult scene to capture with its extreme high dynamic range. The water turned out very good. I assume you were on a tripod. Just getting the camera in a proper position so that the buildings are straight is a difficult task. The actual capture could be done with a remote shutter or time delay to avoid any vibrations. You could deal with the high dynamic range with exposure bracketing and then combining images. I wish I had been shooting right next to you!   Posted: 07/04/2026 09:04:33
While cities just aren't my thing, you've done a great job capturing Hong Kong, a place I'll never see. The water reflections are lovely, the buildings impressive. Personally, I'd crop in a bit from the right to get rid of the low bright light and just a tiny bit from the left to get rid of the cut off white light. I wish the whites weren't quite so bright, but that's how they are in reality I'm sure.   Posted: 07/04/2026 10:47:37

Great shot of the city. The light reflections on the water are spectacular. I also have some issues with the white lights on top of buildings, Richard's suggestions should help in future shots.   Posted: 07/14/2026 07:44:36
