September 2026 - Kicker Rock from San Cristobal
About the Image(s)
This photo of the Kicker Rock (aka Sleeping Lion) in the Galapagos is taken from a different perspective than the usual close up one. I took it from the beach in the island of San Cristobal. I found it looked more mysterious with its peculiar shape but in the distance. I also liked the color and texture effect of the sand, the moss and the blue ocean in the foreground. Let’s see what you think.
I adjusted exposure a bit in Lightroom.
Shot with Canon R5 handheld.
39 mm (RF 24-105 f/2.8 L IS USM Z)
1/400 sec at f/11 ISO 200

This is a beautiful natural seascape with appropriate foreground, sea and the Kicker Rock as an anchor. I cropped a bit of the sky out by my eye and the result is very close to 1/3rd sky and 2/3rds sea/land. I feel this emphasizes Kicker Rock a bit more. In LR you may wish to set your black point by option and the black slider on a Mac. Very pretty image!

Very nice seascape. I like the detail in the foreground and the turquoise color in the water. I agree with Richard's crop off the top. The black areas need just a little detail...it may just look solid on my screen.   Posted: 09/04/2026 21:05:28
