Owl Creek Pass by Leslie Larson

September 2026 - Owl Creek Pass

About the Image(s)

We often tour Colorado in fall to find the golden leaves. One of our favorite spots we return to frequently is Owl Creek Pass. Late September and early Oct. are the times to see the leaves.

You always have great weather when you are on vacation! The light is strong and coming from the right and maybe a polarizing filter would help with color saturation. These high dynamic range images are quite hard to capture. Perhaps a tripod and bracketing the exposure would help preserve the blacks and not blow out the highlights. The alternating colors of yellows and greens are strong points of this image. The tree in the left foreground takes my eyes out of the image. Maybe 20 yards to the right and you could capture the image without the tree. For me the hero of the image are the patterns and colors of the trees leading to the rocks in the background. Well done!!   Posted: 09/03/2026 18:13:27
