April 2026 - Rock Hyrax
About the Image(s)
These guys are at least somewhat protected in Namibia, where they are endemic. In recent years they have moved into and started eating the Quivertrees in the Quivertree Forest, a unique location where they grow more densely than elsewhere. They are very used to people, as they are fed at many lodges.
After shooting lots of wide-angle images of the trees, I spotted this guy at the top of one. I climbed onto a rock pile to better photograph him, only to have him run down the tree to an adjacent pile of rocks. He was munching on a piece of QT and I just happened to catch one frame with his little tongue out. One reason to bring more than one lens!
