About the Image(s)

Chateu d'Abbadie is a neogothic château situated in Hendaye, Pyr©n©es-Atlantiques, France. Built by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and Edmond Duthoit, both patronized by the explorer Antoine d'Abbadie, between 1864 and 1879, it is classified as a historic monument and "Maison des Illustres". The scientific collections, archives and furniture are all authentic and make up a considerable cultural heritage of the 19th century.

To me Michele, there is far too much grass to make this view interesting. Do you need any of the foreground field or any more than half of the land left of the old building? It's quite a 'dower' building with a dark sky - I would work on brightening the former.

Sorry Michele I'm not being very positive here! I apologise!   Posted: 01/16/2025 13:07:42

Michele, a most interesting building that I would love to visit for both its architecture and the treasures inside. I do, however, agree w/Adrian about there being an abundance of grass that takes away from the subject. As far as the lighting goes, I'd love to see all but the sky lightened just a bit and then maybe a bit of contrast used in the sky.   Posted: 01/16/2025 13:59:33

I agree, I would crop some of the grass from the bottom but keeping enough of that line to lead you in. That gets the Chateau pretty centered top to bottom but I would do it. At the same time I would do some cropping on the sides to maintain an aspect ratio that is not narrow. I would do that to not let it get in the middle side to side. The building is great and the sky is appropriate and interesting.   Posted: 01/16/2025 18:24:27

Dear All, thank you for your input. I completely agree with your assessment. Indeed, I posted this image on my Flickr account and the one I posted is cropped the way you say and also converted to black and white. After reviewing it, I think the monochrome version is the one to go with.
Let me know your thoughts.

Best
