November 2025 - Dance Performance
About the Image(s)
Bharatanatyam is the traditional classical dance form of Tamil Nadu, a southern state of India. Every year between December and January, numerous performances are held across the state’s art theaters. Each performance depicts an ancient mythological story, and capturing the dancers’ graceful postures and expressive movements is a true delight for photographers.
Exif: f8, 1/400, ISO 1200 Canon 6D with 24-105 lens. Topaz DeNoise is used to remove noise

Vinaya,
this is a very well composed image and the "panorama" crop is well suited. The black background let creates a perfect contrast with the colorful clothing of the dancer. The asymmetrical position of the dancer lead the eye throughout the image. The only issue I find is that the image is a little soft. If you look at it full size the main dancer (the one almost frontal to the camera) is not very sharp. This may be the effect of the relatively small size of the images that need to be uploaded here, but more likely also from the denoise process.
Kind regards

Thank you, Michele, for detailed analysis & good words. I will chk the issue you pointed out   Posted: 11/14/2025 04:51:43
I like the lines of dancers leading to the one that is clearly the main subject of the image. Positiond about 1/3 in from the left at the point where the two lines meet and with more light on her then the others. This could be from a spot or it could be from post processing, but we are allowed to do dodge and burn as long as it still looks natural. Perhaps she is a little soft, and perhaps that is from denoise, but I don't think it is a severe problem.   Posted: 11/27/2025 16:17:10
Thank you very much Stan for your analysis & good words.
More light on the main dancer is the due to light arrangements of the performance & not in pp.   Posted: 11/29/2025 07:18:55

Vinaya, this image truly is a delight for photographers and judges. You captured an exceptional balance in the asymmetry of the dancers' positions, which brings even further interest to the scene. Just for fun, though, what about cropping about 1/3 of the black background from the top? I think it might make the image of the dancers even stronger.   Posted: 11/29/2025 17:55:30
