December 2025 - Making Oil Tea
Original
About the Image(s)
This woman is a member of the Zhuang people. A minority Chinese community living in the are of Longshen rice terrace. She made us a pot of oil tea—a local favorite. It starts with frying tea leaves in oil along with garlic, ginger, and salt, then boiling it all with water until it turns into a rich, savory broth. They usually serve it with puffed rice and peanuts on top, which makes it extra good. Honestly, it’s delicious… as long as you don’t mind the occasional rat darting across the kitchen (-:
Technical: image taken with Fujifilm GFX 100s II handhold and Fujinon GF 45-100mm f/4 at 45 mm, 1/80s, f/4.5 ISO 8000.
Post processing: I am still surprise regarding how well this camera manage noise for high ISO. Indeed, I did not have to post process the image with topaz Denoise. I just did it within Capture one. Adjustments include basis changing (open shadows and black, decrease the highlights, increase contrast and clarity). I also selectively brightened the shadow in the woman.
