About the Image(s)

This image was taken in the crypt of Saint Sarah in the Church of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, in Camargue, France. Saint Sarah, also known as Sara the Black, is a figure surrounded by legend. According to one tradition, she was the maid of one of the three Marys—Mary and Martha, sisters of Lazarus, and Mary Salome, the mother of the Apostles James and John—who fled the early persecution of Christians around 42 AD. She dedicated her life to helping people by collecting alms, which led to the popular belief that she was a gypsy. According to another legend, she lived in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and saved the three Marys from a shipwreck after receiving a revelation of their arrival. A more controversial legend suggests that she was the daughter of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Today, Saint Sarah is considered the protector of the Gypsy people. Regardless of these differing accounts, the crypt is a special place, imbued with a distinctive and powerful atmosphere.

For me, this image is particularly meaningful because it marks the first time I held my camera again after being diagnosed with my disease.

PP: this is an out of the camera image. I just opened up a little the shadow turn down the highlights and adjust light balance.
