April 2026 - the long ribbon
About the Image(s)
title: the long ribbon
Story: I took this photo in Chengdu, China earlier this year. There were several kids playing with ribbons like this but this child happened to look right at me with Mao Tse-tung in the background.
Camera: OM1 MarkII, OM 17mm prime lens
Settings: f/2.2, 1/640, ISO 160 (auto)
Edits: it was a pretty grey day so I brightened the exposure and the shadows. The sky is a partially blown out but I still think the photo might have value.

You caught such a perfect, fleeting moment. Absolutely amazing.   Posted: 04/12/2026 18:23:29
Thank you, it was quite lucky. Any thoughts about the photography? Exposure, settings, or recommended changes.   Posted: 04/13/2026 00:03:33

The long ribbon perfectly drew a big circle, which was wonderful.
The flagpole in the middle of the distance occupies the back half and rushes out of the picture. If conditions permit, can we choose a horizontal composition to avoid the flagpole and take a panoramic shot.   Posted: 04/13/2026 03:01:57
