Zhan Garden is situated within the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenic Belt in Qinhuai District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. As the oldest surviving classical garden of the Ming Dynasty in Nanjing, it ranks among the Four Great Classical Gardens south of the Yangtze River.It is the best-preserved architectural complex of a Ming classical garden in Nanjing and the only open Ming royal mansion. The garden once formed part of the residence of Xu Da, a founding meritorious official of the Ming Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as the official office for successive Jiangnan Administration Commissioners, and later became the mansion of Yang Xiuqing, the Eastern King, in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom era.
