September 2024 - Mount Bromo
About the Image(s)
While on the Indonesian Photogathering, we went on a sunrise photoshoot of the Mount Bromo area in East Java. Mount Bromo is the volcano on the left with steam rising from the crater. There are five strato volcanos rising from the Sandsea floor of the the 16km wide Tengger Caldera, of which Bromo is the only currently active. The volcano in the foreground is Mount Batok and the large one in the distance is Mount Semeru. Bromo is derived from the Javanese pronunciation of ‘Brahama, which is the hindu creator god.

Stunning image, Michael, seeing the steam rise from the crater. At first I didn't think I liked the group of tourists to the right but they do act as foreground objects. You didn't indicate which camera or setting you used but it is very sharp. Great composition too.   Posted: 09/05/2024 16:00:43

I apologize for not including the camera info.
Sony RX10M4, ISO 2000, 41mm, F8, 1/125s
I understand about the people, but I couldn't figure out how to crop them out, without losing the floor of the caldera, and thus compromising the composition. There was no other location that allowed me to exclude them. Anyway, I thought they gave some perspective of the scale of the image.

They definitely do and it is still a stunning image. Nice job.   Posted: 09/18/2024 18:58:13

What a spectacular image, especially with the smoke rising from and hovering around the volcano. I wouldn't have chosen to include the people in the right foreground, but the way they are sidelit by the rays of the setting sun is spectacular.   Posted: 09/17/2024 02:41:30

Sukumar and Shirley have said it all: this is an outstanding image: wall worthy. For me, the highlighted people add a lot to the overall photo.   Posted: 09/17/2024 12:56:56

Another destination on my bucket list! And one of the classic viewpoints is shown in your excellent photograph - especially when there is vapour emerging from one of the craters.
I agree the people give scale, but I do hope you were able to move around a little to capture the scene without distraction of humans.   Posted: 09/23/2024 06:50:27

I was able to, but not quite this vantage point.

Absolutely beautiful! I can't imagine going on a trip with 200+ photographers. Your image is well composed and all the
steam really adds a lot to your image. The people don't bother me too much and the lighting where they are is lovely. You could clone them out for a PID exhibition.   Posted: 09/23/2024 15:12:22
