Shirley a very interesting and beautiful temple. I'm glad that you photographed it from the corner, as opposed to face on to one side, as it provides depth and also allows the viewer to see all of the temple. I'm assuming that the building in the background is also part of the temple? Nice job.   Posted: 09/13/2024 09:35:17

Thanks, Michael. The building in the background is part of the temple complex. There are several larger buildings around but none as attractive as this. History of it is:

Naritasan Temple, formally known as Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, was established in 940 AD to house a statue of the fire deity Fudo Myo-o (Acala), which was believed to have been carved by the renowned Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi; the temple was built to commemorate the victory of imperial forces against a rebellion in the Kanto region, and legend states that the statue became too heavy to move back to Kyoto after the rebellion was suppressed, signifying the divine will to keep it in Narita, where the temple was then constructed; This statue remains the central object of worship at Naritasan, making it a significant pilgrimage
site for the Shingon sect of Buddhism.

Magnificent temple! Well photographed, showcasing the bright red colors against the blue sky. Is it constructed entirely of wood? The architecture reminds me somewhat of Hanuman Dhoka in the Durbar Square of Kathmandu, Nepal, although it's been 46 years since I was there.   Posted: 09/17/2024 02:01:50

Shirley, Thank you for the interesting information about Shinjoji Temple AND the lovely image. The red and gold are perfect for the main building.

This is an excellent photograph!

Beautiful temple and well photographed, Shirley. i like the angle you chose and the building behind it adds some dimension and interest. Japan has many beautiful temples and this certainly is one of them. Definitely PT image.   Posted: 09/23/2024 14:39:47
