Forest shrine, Parvati valley, Himachal Pradesh by N. Sukumar, APSA

September 2024 - Forest shrine, Parvati valley, Himachal Pradesh

About the Image(s)

This shrine in the forest on a mountaintop is used only 3 days in the year. But on those days, thousands of visitors congregate on this mountain, under the pines. Each valley has its own deity. Every now and then they visit each other. 3 deities were visiting here from various nearby temples on this day. Photographed with my Vivo V23e 52 mm. f/1.8 @ 1/33 sec. ISO:1132.

Very colorful image, Sukomar. Keeping the two people in the image, (the girl in front of the window and the partial image of the boy) enhances the image. Very sharp considering the amount of light coming through the windows behind it. Nice.

Sukumar, as always you give us a very colorful, unique and interesting image. I know that you probably didn't have a choice, but I would have preferred not to have the partial image of the boy in photograph, but to see another of the deities in better detail. The girl in the background provides some scale. The lighting was good and the image is sharp. Considering the naturalness of the colors, I assume that was a skylight overhead.   Posted: 09/13/2024 10:00:56

I think those are tube lights overhead.   Posted: 09/16/2024 08:01:56

Your photos are always interesting to me and I learn something about your culture. After reading other reviews, I'll give my opinion! I like both people in the image. The woman on the left and the boy on the right balance each other and we are reminded that the shrine is there to be used. I'm surprised that it is only used 3 days each year.
Wonderful colors and light!

Another fine image showing the culture of the sub Continent, I do like the boy on the right side as he is looking into the frame but, unlike other group members, I find the girl on the left side (on her phone) not in context to a photograph of a religious theme so I cropped her off the edge.
As ever your picture shows the colours and vibrancy that is typical India.   Posted: 09/23/2024 06:41:15

Very colorful as many of your images are and I always appreciate your details. I like David's crop as it puts more emphasis on the important part of the image. Well done especially considering the lighting.   Posted: 09/23/2024 14:56:46
