Temple of Edfu by Esther Steffens

October 2024 - Temple of Edfu

About the Image(s)

I was in Egypt in April 2019. I went with my sister and her husband and we did the Viking River Cruise on the Nile. We slept and mostly ate on the boat but went to several places each day on land. We explored the Temple of Edfu on April 24 in the morning.
The Temple of Edfu is an Egyptian temple located on the West Bank of the Nile in Edfu, Upper Egypt. It is one of the best preserved shrines in Egypt. The temple was built between 237 and 57 BC. The inscriptions on the walls provide information on Language, myth and religion during the Hellenistic period in Egypt.

Esther, a very nice photograph of what I assume is the entrance to the temple. The lighting is just right to be able to clearly see the reliefs on the walls. Your photo causes me to wonder how large the temple is? Are we seeing just a small part or is this what remains. I envy those who have been to Egypt. Not sure I will get there unless I go alone, as my wife has not interest. The Viking Cruise is a great way to see the Nile without having to pack and unpack every day.   Posted: 10/19/2024 14:12:23

Your image brings fond memories for me, Egypt is a VERY photogenic place to visit, and your image of the entrance to the Temple at Edfu shows light and shadow - not easy in the intense sunlight.
For the benefit of Michael that doorway is at least twenty feet high! I also like how you ensure the carvings of Pharoahs and gods are part of your photograph.   Posted: 10/20/2024 15:40:13

Nice image of the temple entrance. I like having some history of the subject.   Posted: 10/21/2024 14:14:40
