March 2025 - Second beach
About the Image(s)
I took this about ten years ago and it popped up on my computer recently. I have no data but I probably took it with a 50D Canon.
I joined a photo trip to WA. in April or May. Second Beach is in the Olympic National Park. It is a scenic beach with sea stacks, tide pools and a coastal forest. The hike in is .7 miles and is an easy to moderate walk. When we were there, there were a lot of big logs that people crawled over to get to the water. Someone recently told me the logs were gone now. It was foggy and/or cloudy so the lighting wasn’t the best. I decided to try this in monochrome.

I think your choice of monochrome works very well for this image, with the dark clouds at the top. I'd love to see this in a bigger print, but also wish the land form at the right wasn't cut off. Posted: 03/18/2025 02:51:13
I don't know if I have an image showing the whole of the land form on the right. I agree with you. Posted: 03/21/2025 19:49:22
I rremember seeing your image showing the logs sometime in the past. That would have kept me away:-). I think monochrome works well for your image. IO agree with Sukumar about the cutoff land. The sky adds a lot. Well done. Posted: 03/19/2025 15:20:45
Esther, very interesting photo of the ominous sky, and from the tree on the rock, looks like it was very windy as well. You were brave to trek across the logs to get there. We thought Olympic Natl Park was beautiful but our weather was so different. Your choice of monochrome is perfect choice for this photo. And I like your composition keeping the trees in on the left side with the rock on the right side balance it out nicely. Nice!
Sorry I missed entering. See my explanation in David's photo. Posted: 03/24/2025 10:54:53

A pity about the cut off on the right hand side but, overall this is a fine seascape. The mono conversion works really well, especially with the dramatic sky. Posted: 03/25/2025 06:15:09
Nicely done Esther. I love mono for this type of dramatic image. There balance to the photo and cutting off the right side has already been commented on. We lived in Seattle for 8 years, and unfortunately our trips to the Olympics Peninsula on the ocean were very wet. I need to go back, now that I am deeply into photography to do some work there. I miss the Pacific Northwest, although sunshine in Florida is a little more uplifting than the rain. Nice photo!! Posted: 03/26/2025 10:42:17
Nice storm clouds. The few trees on the rock are interesting. Posted: 03/28/2025 11:34:19
