A New York Moment by Dr Edward Goldenberg

March 2024 - A New York Moment

About the Image(s)

It was taken on the high line in Manhattan and represents one of many forms of street entertainment found in NY. I have found street entertainment in visits to Europe and South America. Of interest, this gentleman is playing an instrument that he probably learned to play in his native asian country. I saw a similar instrument at the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Ed, I don't think this fits the PTD criteria, but I'll leave that up to the experts in our group.
This image needs more in it to tell a story. Perhaps including some passersby or including more of the overall scene would have added more interest.   Posted: 03/05/2024 07:57:10

Ed, I agree with Susan regarding whether it fits PTD criteria, but it is an excellent exhibit of good street photography, that is one of your passions. I disagree with Susan in that it doesn't tell a story. IMV, all street photographers images have a story behind them and it only left to our imaginations as to what that story of real life should be interpreted to be. Street photography, and street photographers are the true artists of our hobby as all their images are designed to tell a story of like as it exists, "on the street," so to speak.   Posted: 03/08/2024 10:29:57

Ed, this image is actually a street photography capture rather than a PTD image. By itself does tell a story, but it does not relate the photo travel definition, or perhaps just a little taking into consideration the musical instrument he is playing which is an erhu or chinese violin and this would imply it is China Town or nearby giving us a sense of place. Also, I think it would be a stronger image had it been created from a more direct vantage angle.   Posted: 03/24/2024 15:27:45
