About the Image(s)
A few years ago, I went to Tennessee for a fall foliage photography workshop. The hotel we were staying was next to the Little River Railroad & Lumber Company Museum in the town of Townsend which was the site of the Little River Lumber Company Mill complex founded in 1901 by Col W.B. Townsend for whom the community is named. The company was one of the largest commercial lumber operations in the Smokies from 1901 to 1939. The Locomotive Engine # 2147 is a Shay built in 1909 by Lima Locomotive Works in Ohio. These types of engines are designed to pull heavy loads up steep hills and around sharp curves by using a series of gears to power every wheel gaining more traction at the cost of speed (Original). This # 2147 is the last remaining Shay engine from the Little River to not be wrecked or scraped.
The image is a Pano of two created using a Nikon D3s with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm f/3.5-5.6 with these settings: ISO 280, f/10 and 1/90 sec. The original is a HDR of 5 exposures processed in LightRoom. The images are slightly cropped.
