October 2025 - Sunrise at kanyakumari
About the Image(s)
Kanyakumari is the southernmost point of India, where the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean. It’s one of the rare places where you can witness both sunrise and sunset over the sea. I used boats in the foreground as leading lines to add depth, other than that a photo is simple. Two statues identify the place

One of my specialties is sunrises and sunsets. Both are examples of backlighting. Yours is a good example. I prefer the foreground objects on backlighted images to be almost black appearing as silhouettes, but if you did that, you would have had to create the image before the sun actually rose, and you wouldn't have captured the image of the rising sun in the sky. Regardless, it's a good image. You do have leading lines, but they lead away from what appears to be your subject. I don't think they add depth; your panoramic view does that and I feel your depth-fo-field is excellent. I am surprised at your data, as I would have suspected that at the ISO you used, your shutter speed would have been far longer than 1/200. You were able to capture the blue of the sky of the emerging daylight, and that added to your image.   Posted: 10/02/2025 18:15:47
