In Mexico as in other developing countries, there is a lot of street living, cooking and eating. These women are making tortillas, tamales and Mole, a specialty of Michoacan state. Mole is a sauce based on chocolate and is poured over chicken and other dishes. Since I don’t speak Spanish, I can’t read the graffiti behind the women but it is clearly a poster against the police.

Tom, indeed you captured a whole team work scene. In the right foreground the Mole, behind the lady cooking the chicken and something else, The second lady cooking the tortillas. On the left the back lady preparing the dough of the tortillas, and the lady in the front has her hands inside a gigantic cooking pot full of wrapped tamales. It can not get any better for a PTD image showing the ethnicity of the people and their cooking/culture characteristics including their outfits. The back wall reads: Building a popular Union going forward to "something"...... To the far right there is a poster showing types of food and price, and yes to the left are some images of what looks like police apprehending and hurting people (blood-red patches..)

Isaac, thanks for translating the writing on the wall. One of these days I really need to get myself a Mexican Spanish dictionary, especially since I do go to Mexico about once every year or two.   Posted: 10/11/2022 16:23:17

Tom, there are several translation apps, you can speak in English and have it translated into other languages (the app called translate) or take a photo then translate (the app called photo translator), and have fun while traveling and take more great PTD photos for us.   Posted: 10/12/2022 06:49:16

Isaac, thanks so much for the explanation, I love Mexican foods as living in California for a long time. I have never seen how tortillas were made, but it is the same cooking style as Chinse pancake. What was the stew/sauce on the left?   Posted: 10/12/2022 06:54:01

Mole: is considered one of the most important dishes in Mexican cuisine, but few people outside of Mexico are aware of just how vast the world of mole is. For starters, there isn't just one mole but rather a whole family of preparations that fall under the mole category. Mole poblano, which includes chocolate, is perhaps one of the most well-known moles in the US. However, there are many more varieties of mole in a rainbow of colors from red and green to yellow and even black   Posted: 10/15/2022 09:51:34

Tom, A great travel photo. The composition is strong, with the women and the back wall acting as a circular frame around all the food. I like how you've captured the concentration in their faces as they each cook. The contrast of their peaceful activity with the violence on the back wall is striking. And now, I'm craving chicken mole.   Posted: 10/05/2022 18:57:40

Hi Tom -- I bet this smelled really good! I love the women's faces and wish I could see them even better. I'm going to be radical and say this could be two images of two women each. It's such an interesting group with all the details about the food and the words and artwork on the wall. Thanks for sharing this image.   Posted: 10/12/2022 15:56:35
