January 2025 - Tirta Empul

About the Image(s)

One of the busiest water temples in Indonesia, Tirta Empul is a temple considered sacred by Balinese Hindu community. The temple has several holy springs which are said to have been created by The God Indra and believed to be blessed water that could purify those who bathe there. Tirta Empul is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of water. In the Balinese language, Tirta Empul loosely translated means water gushing from the earth, which for this reason Tirta Empul is regarded as a holy spring. They rent bathing suits for the pilgrims who come. It was amazing to see this very busy place with so many people taking the sacred waters.

Laurie, you don't give us any technical data but I suspect you used a wide angle lens and got close. Good choice, since the foreground is large and the basin and the worshippers recede into the distance. Gives the image great depth. Isn't Bali one of the most wonderful places in the world?   Posted: 01/06/2025 17:15:21

Hi Tom - Bali is indeed lovely. I did actually send technical date but I guess Carolyn forgot to put it in. Here it is: ISO 160, f/4.0, 20.2 mm, 1/80 sec.   Posted: 01/06/2025 19:46:20

Oops...apologies...when I copied and pasted I didn't catch that technical line. I too really like this point of view. The lines and the people draw you in and there is varied activity which makes it intriguing to look at.   Posted: 01/06/2025 20:03:51

A very interesting scene! I like your camera angle because you can see all the lines of people waiting to receive the sacred water and the people who are not in the water. Well done.   Posted: 01/07/2025 18:10:19

Excellent composition. Love the image. For my taste the blue of the water looks little crystalline and blacks are little more deep. Nice work.   Posted: 01/14/2025 21:31:51

This is a little different than what I think of when I think of when I think of Travel, but yes it does fit the Photo Travel definition quite well. I think it would also do well in PJ as a Human Interest image.   Posted: 01/23/2025 15:13:40

Bali, Indonesia, is a beautiful place to visit. If you include more of the bottom left, the entire water hole will be a symmetrically complete image.
I agree; it will do well in PJ as a Human Interest Image.   Posted: 01/24/2025 00:05:03
