Giant Buddha at Yungang Grottoes in China by Laurie Bergner

November 2025 - Giant Buddha at Yungang Grottoes in China

About the Image(s)

Most of the grottoes are all caves inside, as you can see further to the left of the giant Buddha, but it was much easier to get a picture of this huge Buddha and to see the scale of it with the people in the picture.

Here's a description of them: The Yungang Grottoes, in Datong city, Shanxi Province, with their 252 caves and 51,000 statues, represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist cave art in China in the 5th and 6th centuries. The Five Caves created by Tan Yao, with their strict unity of layout and design, constitute a classical masterpiece of the first peak of Chinese Buddhist art.

Good perspective. I like having the people to give the scale. The Buddha seems to be leaning forward. I might try straightening it a bit.   Posted: 11/24/2025 19:46:29

I feel this is a great travel and image about a culture. The people add much interest to the image. There looks like a little bit of a tilt that could be easily fixed. Nice job.   Posted: 11/24/2025 20:15:10

An interesting photo travel image of a giant, well-carved statue of a Buddha on a rock wall, with people giving scale to the giant Buddha.
Since the image was taken by an iPhone, you can see the pixelated grass and the sky.   Posted: 11/26/2025 23:25:34
