Giza Camel Stop by Phyllis Peterson

January 2026 - Giza Camel Stop

About the Image(s)

Settings: Shutter: 1/640 sec at Aperture: f/9.0, ISO 100, 95mm

During a stop at Giza, I was able to photograph the camels next to the Pyramids (but couldn't get the pyramids in the photo.)
I liked the colors on the camels and the ambience of the scene.

I like this perspective, although I imagine people will say they would like to see their faces. But I think it's interesting. Oud like to see more texture in the sand and I think I would crop out the material on the left bottom.   Posted: 01/12/2026 10:34:27

Thanks for your comments/suggestions. I'll try cropping the left material.   Posted: 01/17/2026 13:13:38

Too bad you were not able to include the pyramids. It would complete the story. It seems like your exposure has blown out the details. If you have the old Nik software or the newer version there was a filter called "Detail Extractor" that I have been able to use on some images that was able to bring out some details that were in the camera capture but seemed to be hidden.   Posted: 01/17/2026 10:00:23

Thanks for the comments and the tip regarding Nik software. I think I still have it and I'll try it.   Posted: 01/17/2026 13:12:51

I think I would crop out the material on the left bottom. Color of the sky looks different. Where was the focus ?

This is an interesting image with two beautifully decorated camels, a rider, and two caretakers. I cropped the photo to remove the distraction in the bottom left, though it is a bit tight. I also cleaned up a dirt spot on the lens.
I hope the cropped image will help.   Posted: 01/18/2026 01:24:25

I agree with David's crop, although he would probably have left a little more on the bottom if the objective was not to crop out the fragment of the saddle. The image could benefit from some contrast enhancement (with Curves) and some sharpening.   Posted: 01/21/2026 12:58:12
