Note:
The "Extraordinary Greenland in the evening" image was taken during my July 2018 trip to Greenland.
I asked the operator why the Red sailboat was following us. I was told the Red Sailboat would serve as our safety boat to assist us in case of any accident or trouble. For now enjoy taking the pictures.
To me, I did not give directions to the captain or the crew on the Red Sailboat regarding what to do when I was taking pictures. At one point, I remember the other photographers and bloggers complained it was too cold and went inside the boat, while I remained alone at the bow, enjoying taking the pictures.
Perhaps the captain of our boat was directing the captain in the Red Sailboat where to go which I don't know.
Later on, I found out that the Red sailboat is considered staged or setting photography and
The PSA also includes the Red Sailboat scene in the setup images gallery list because the photography Tour leader who runs these tours stated that the Red Sailboat is used to set up images for the photographers.
Now, is this PTDD or PTDW?

I had always wondered whether the red sails are really setups or if they were just tourist boats with red sails that photography tours knew about and organized their tours around the sailing schedule. But your description of the guy telling you that he was following for safety is definitely a clue that it is an arranged event. That and the fact that several photo tour groups offer "Red Sails in Greenland (or Iceland)" tours.   Posted: 03/05/2026 13:54:57
