About the Image(s)

I took this photograph on an evening sailing cruise out of Key West in December 2024. I have never entered it into a PTD exhibition because it does not meet the specificity clause of the PT definition. However, I could now enter it into a PTDW (World in Focus) exhibition.

Let's look at part of the World in Focus definition for a minute: "A "WORLD IN FOCUS" image expresses the spirit of an era, the essence of a place or of a culture whether it is shown in an authentic scene or whether it is arranged."

So my question is does this beautiful scene of a schooner sail show the "essence of a place or of a culture"? How would a judge assess it given the above definition? Is a boat on an open sea considered to be a "place"?

I love schooner sailing, did it several times both in Maine and in the Virgin Islands. So I looked online and found a list of where today's schooners can be found. They are mostly in North America, especially Maine, but can also be found in Australia and several countries in Europe.   Posted: 03/05/2026 13:43:04
