March 2026 - Leading into Hoover Dam

About the Image(s)

Why I took this image:

When Carolyn and I made our trip to the canyons of Utah and Las Vegas we also made a day trip to the Hoover Dame which is one of my “bucket” list places. In August of last year, I showed you an image looking from the base of the dam up to the bridge which has always fascinated me. For this image I simply turned around and wanted to show you the source of all the water that flows through the dam. The other thing I wanted to show you is you can see by the lines on the rocks how far the water has receded and indicates a problem with water supply in the future.

Camera Settings:
Creation Date: 03/12/2025 Camera: Canon EOS R6, Shutter Speed: 1/320, Aperture f/10, ISO 100, Lens Canon RF 24 “ 105 f4.0 @ 45 mm

Post processing:
Normal LR adjustments and straightening. Small amount of dehaze. Sharpening and denoise using Topaz Photo AI. No power transmission wires on this side of dam.

I like the contrasting layers of this composition. The amount the water has receded is somewhat alarming. You captured the scene well, although I'm not sure how judges would react to it. Would they think the landscape is distinctive enough?   Posted: 03/06/2026 15:11:40

This is a striking landscape with strong geological characteristics. The contrast between the dark canyon walls and deep blue water creates beautiful visual tension. Nice Image. Great Work.   Posted: 03/06/2026 19:43:26
