About the Image(s)

We had just toured the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. When we walked outside I saw this man blowing huge bubbles that people enjoyed. I walked behind him to include the beautiful Guggenheim.
Photo was captured at 1/320 sec, f8, iso 125 at 12 mm on my OM 1 Mark 2. I downloaded the images into LR and edited in PS and Nik Color Efex for dynamic contrast. Original photo shows the starting point.

Richard,

Check your original, I don't think it's the same image.

I like this scene, it has that authentic feel. If I were judging, on a scale of 3 to 9, I would likely score this a 7. Given the direction of the shadows, I suspect you have done some significant work on the Shadows and Highlights to bring up the faces of the people here without losing the whites. The sky was your friend in this scene!

You may get comments about the "amputated" arms on the left side - I personally like this aspect, as it feels more like a grab shot in the middle of the action. To my eye, this sort of feature feels both deliberate and unavoidable. I agree with your framing/cropping choices.

Yes!
This was definitely a grab shot in the middle of the action. I had just walked out from the museum and took about a dozen shot sbefore the moment was gone.
I too am concerned about the arms. A planned image would likely have included the fellow but I did not like the cigarette in his mouth.
Street photography is hard.
Thank you!

Hi Richard, very nice shot - I love the colors of the bubbles floating in the foreground. I would keep the fellow in the image - but it a personal preference. I agree with cropping on the right side. The sky is great.   Posted: 10/12/2024 15:41:33

I really like the composition of the bubbles flowing towards Guggemheim on the left, and the clouds at the top of the photo adding texture. The joy on the girl's face adds to the wonder.

This is a great example of what post can do for an image. The new picture is warmer, the colors brighter, the faces lighter and there is more contrast which really brings out the colors of the bubble and amplifies the angular nature of the building. In comparing it to the original I think I'd prefer to keep the man in the shot but love the capture.   Posted: 10/17/2024 20:19:04
