Scouts Honor the Fallen by Frederick Emch

December 2025 - Scouts Honor the Fallen

About the Image(s)

I went to a National Military Cemetery the weekend before Memorial Day and saw Boy Scouts planting flags at the gravestones in honor of the soldiers who gave their lives.

I used a Canon EOS 60D with a 100-400mm lens at 100mm, ISO 1600, 1/320sec, f8.

Planting small flags on the graves of those deceased veterans is an annual chore of scouting, a chore which the Boy Scouts of America( which it was once called) assumed as a patriotic responsibility when it commenced the practice years ago. Your image puts the scout placing the flags as the center of focus with the background becoming blurry due to depth-of-field. The image appears somewhat overexposed ever so slightly and could have been improved had you compensated the image at -.3 or even-.7. That would have made the colors a bit bolder, but it still is a good image for PJD and certainly for an HI theme.   Posted: 12/11/2025 06:42:02

I like this photo. Cropping is perhaps too tight, and colors could be slightly more saturated, but the overall feel is good.   Posted: 12/22/2025 22:48:39
