Khuang Si Waterfall by Stan Bormann, FPSA, MPSA

April 2024 - Khuang Si Waterfall

About the Image(s)

Shot with Canon 7D and 15-85 lens at ISO100, 26mm, f/18, 1/6 sec on tripod on q2/26/2013 at 1:09 in Laos. Processed in Lightroom to bring up some of the shadows a bit and general Basic Panel adjustments. The only place to take this was on a wooden bridge that moved if anyone on the bridge moved and while we could not talk to anyone on the bridge, when we wanted to take a shot, they all understood and stopped moving. I consider this a one of a kind unique waterfall, perhaps one of the most beautiful in the world.

Beautifully done, especially under the conditions you describe. I agree that this is certainly recognizable and fits the photo travel definition as the landscape is quite unique. Well done!   Posted: 04/07/2024 19:36:22

Stan, this is definitively a wonderful image with a great shooting time choice, composition and light. I have a problem to consider as a travel image however. I can see this image in a travel essay, but as a single I would consider this image highly competitive for nature competition, much less for a travel section. Just my two cents thought.

Best

Stan, lovely shot of Waterfall captured with slow shutter speed with tripod. The photo has super depth giving 3 dimensional effect to the image. Nice light too. Loved it.

If the waterfall is very unique in the world, then it will definitely go in travel session

Stan, your capture of the waterfall is as near "perfect" as I've ever seen. Most importantly is having found the "architecture" of this waterfall, and how the water falls in different ways from top to bottom. In addition, you've got just the right amount of light for the viewer to appreciate the mood you've created with your slow shutter speed. Finally, the red branch(es) at the top of the waterfall bring an extra bonus to the image.   Posted: 04/15/2024 00:30:00

Stan - This is a lovely landscape and definitely a Travel image. Pre-covid, there were many Exhibitions including a number of PTD sections, including some 'Scapes" - for some reason there are virtually none of these themed sections now. So Michele has a point as whether now, landscapes like this do well in PTD.

You probably entered it years ago!

My only observation is that my eye is taken to two areas on the extreme right which are very bright and somehow a different type of white than the rest. I would do something to tone these areas down a tad.

Lovely image though!   Posted: 04/15/2024 11:23:17

Stan, This is a lovely image! I have nothing to add to the previous comments. I agree with Adrian that the very bright white in the lower right side of the photo is a bit distracting.   Posted: 04/25/2024 17:45:39
