Morning Exercise at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall by Tom Lee

November 2024 - Morning Exercise at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall

About the Image(s)

Description:
This image depicts a group of people practicing traditional Chinese exercises in Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Plaza, Taipei. It's very common for people to gather in groups in the morning to practice various exercises in open plazas and parks throughout Taipei. I stumbled upon this spot one morning while walking near my rental during my stay in the city.

Camera:
Panasonic G9 Mk2 with Leica 12-60 mm Lens

Metadata:
1/60 sec at f/8, ISO 500, focal length 18 mm, aperture priority, spot metering

Processing:
I used Lightroom to adjust the basic tone and then utilized Photo AI to remove noise and enhance the sharpness of the image. Upon returning to Lightroom, I further refined the image through selective dodging and burning to enhance its overall appeal.

Tom, I enjoyed seeing the Chinese exercise when I spent nearly a month there in 2017. Your image is very colourful and well presented. I wonder if it would be worth looking at the effect of cropping from left, right and bottom a bit to bring the people closer to the viewer.   Posted: 11/20/2024 12:10:12

Hi Tom, this is a very nice image documenting one of the social aspect of the Chinese life that surprised me first time I visited the Country. I agree with Adrian that cropping from the bottom left would take away a lot of the empty foreground.

best

I agree with Adrian and Michele, so I re-cropped the photo. I changed the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 to provide room for the foreground as well as the space above the flag pole, while tightened up the room on both sides. Hope this works better.   Posted: 11/21/2024 12:38:10
