About the Image(s)
Dear All,
Vinaya was right—due to my decreased short- and long-term memory, I didn’t realize that the image I posted had already been shared in this discussion group. My apologies for the oversight. Since we have until the 10th of the month, I’m taking this opportunity to correct my mistake (sorry to those who already provided feedback!).
This image was taken in Amsterdam a few weeks ago. I was there for work and took a day off to wander around. I ended up walking 20 km and enjoyed a wonderful spring day.
This photo is my attempt to capture the essence of the city while avoiding the typical clichés—like bikes tightened to hand rails and canals. Yet, bicycles are such a defining feature of Amsterdam that they had to appear in the frame. I used a shallow depth of field to focus on the bicycle in the foreground, letting the background elements complement the main subject.

Your Amsterdam image works in my view. Very different. I think it can be deduced that the image is from there. I suggest you darken to area where there are no bikes, to stop the eye going there. An alternative idea may be to make is square to further concentrate the view from bottom handlebars.   Posted: 04/18/2025 09:48:06
Regarding your comment on darkening the area with no bike, I can agree with you. Regarding cropping I have imposed strict rules on my images and my format is 3x2 for horizontal and 3x4 for vertical. If the image does not work in those format, I just do not use it. More if I would crop the image that way the street lamp would move too close to the left margin and I would loose the buildings on the left that in my opinion frame the image.
