May 2025 - Belgrade St. sava Chandelier 7983
About the Image(s)
Shot taken on an iPhone 14 Pro Max at 1/50 sec, f/1.8, 6.86 mm, ISO 125.
This is a beautiful modern cathedral of the Serbian Orthodox religion. The church is very large with a large dome and this chandelier hangs under the dome, The chandelier is reported to weigh 7 tons. The church is built to rival in size and spendor to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul that was built as a christian church, converted to a mosque, then a museum and then back to its current state as a mosque.

Stan, you once again show that with the phone cameras it is possible to capture excellent images. The composition of this image is spot on. The image is very sharp and everything just provide a feeling of the magnificence of this place.
Best wishes

Hi Stan, this is a really nice perspective capturing the grandeur of this very large piece. Are there any elements that show its current use as a mosque? It's interesting that the icons remain seemingly unchanged from its original use.   Posted: 05/12/2025 08:24:37
I am sorry, I think I confused things with my comments. this was built as an Orthodox Christian church with the first stone laid in 1935. Contruction was delayed by war and communism and not finished until 2020. It has never been a mosque, but it is considered by many a replacemnt for the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the religious and spiritual centre of the Eastern Orthodox Church for nearly one thousand years that is now a mosque and was converted to a musum in 1935 when construction was then started on this church.

Lovely very sharp image, lovely composition too. iPhone's results are always v stunning.
It would have been interesting to try a frame with only chandelier sharp with blur b/g   Posted: 05/15/2025 06:22:49

Hi Stan - Another excellent iPhone taken image. Well seen and taken. As a fellow iPhone user, I intend to experiment in forcing it to use portrait mode to control the depth of field - this could be a good example where this may benefit.
This is my last month in this group - I'm moving to a Mono one (I only wish to have 3pm and am in 2 Nature related ones as well). I've learnt much from your experience and wise suggestions, thank you. I will keep a close eye on PTD generally (as well as participating) as it wrestles with all the changing times.   Posted: 05/19/2025 01:34:09
