July 2021 - Grand Theatre of Havana
About the Image(s)
This was taken in January last year and I haven’t done anything with this yet because I missed the dome off the top of the building. Does this ruin this image is my core question! My excuse was that I was concentrating on timing the cars as I was keen for the pink one to feature but in the right place!
Settings with Oly lend 12-100 (at 12mm) 1/1000 f8 ISO200.
PP work was just cropping from the bottom and evening out the lighting on the building as the front was in shadow.
I’ve chosen the English version of the word Theatre in the Title - I hope that doesn’t offend!

Adrian, the pink convertible seems to be around when you are photographing in Cuba. The Theatre's building shows a very elaborated architectural elements with European influence as do most of the Cuban's architecture prior to 1959. You could just have used the Spanish version: "Gran Teatro de la Havana", almost the same. The image is sharp and also shows the different means of transportation of the locals. The convertibles are for the tourists. I agree with you that the amputated tower will reduce the chances for a winner.   Posted: 07/07/2021 13:01:09

I saw that title, but concluded I should use the English name, in case I try it in an Exhibition.
This is a separate image I took at the same session - my theme was to include an old car!   Posted: 07/07/2021 13:10:55

Adrian, this image created from a different vantage point tells a different story, specially the resemblance to the Washington Capitol Building. You do have your old car in the frame. Very peculiar color. The presence of the people gives dimension.   Posted: 07/09/2021 21:37:40

Adrian, a wonderful typical Cuban image telling a story of a normal day in Havana. Your story includes some 1950 American cars, a taxi-bike with passengers, a motor scooter and some pedestrians all in front of a rather run-down old building. All you missed was the graffiti !   Posted: 07/14/2021 14:05:22

A good architectural picture but I agree the decapitated tower is a problem. However the antique cars in the image definitely establishes the place. I think I like the second picture better because of the simplicity of it.   Posted: 07/15/2021 09:33:05

The picture is on the street. The European building is the icing on the cake. The tower is not important, but of course the cutting of it is going to cause concern with many. I would suggest copping close to the top of the main building or look like you planned it by cropping down into the building to concentrate interest on the street. You would end up with a pano, but you could also crop the right if you don't like that. One could argue that the colorful cars on the right detract from the colorful cars at the intersection.   Posted: 07/18/2021 19:18:19

Stan, gosh there is lateral thinking from an experienced head! So simple, but a perfect solution. Thank you!   Posted: 07/19/2021 15:42:26

I think the crop works! and the pink car adds impact to this Havana photograph.
Issac - when was your image of the Capitolio taken? Back in 2014 the dome was covered in scaffolding and the locals were predicting it may be decades before it comes down!   Posted: 07/26/2021 15:24:44
