About the Image(s)

Some of you are likely to know of the modern architectural joys in Valencia, Spain (on the Med coast) - specifically the Arts and Science centre built some 20 years ago - about 6 buildings many surrounded by shallow water pools - purely for their reflections. One building is a theatre, others science related. 2 of the other building are at the back here - in line. The tall construction to the right is the support for a bridge - over-engineered for effect.

The first building was closed when I took this - the 'doors' are the triangle shaped bits at each point - they rotate to allow people in. The structure just houses a dome which is the roof of an underground construction. So by day, we could walk round the dome - inside, just enjoying the experience. One of the most impressive modern constructions I have seen.

We had 3 days there last autumn and visited a few times, sunrise, sunset and by day. This was taken in the blue hour, just before dark. There were many tripods (on workshops with a guide), but I wanted the speed of moving around to capture as many views as I could in what was a frustratingly short period (of blue hour).

This was taken with my Olympus OM-1 with 8-25mm lens (FF 16-50) F4 at 11mm (so 22FF) - at 1/10th second, f6.3 and ISO 3,200. I never worry about these sort of ISO levels now, given the great Raw converters nowadays. I can handhold at well below 1/10 second with this lens given the 7.5 stops of image stabilisation my kit has. I accept that a tripod could have allowed the water ripples to be flattened - but life is full of sacrifices.
