October 2026 - Dubrovnik main Street at night
About the Image(s)
We were in Dubrovnik for 3 days (2 nights) last October, so we had the opportunity to be in the old city in the evening - when most of the day-visitors (of which there are of course thousands) had left.
I took this in a period when I was experimenting in slow shutter speeds - 1 second - positioned in the main wide street (which actually used to be a canal running the full width of the old town from the internal port). I also used F20 - both to help drive that speed, but also to create the star effect on the lights.
So overall settings - Olympus gear, including my main travel lens of 12-100 (24-200 FF) F4 - 1 second hand held, f20 ISO1,000 taken at 28mm (FF 56). For that level of zoom, I have no trouble holding the camera still at 1 Second, given the 7.5 stop Image Stabilisation the above provides. PP in Lightroom. I saw this as a mono.

The only thing I noticed is that all the lights are competing for attention. I understand that you don't have control over the number of lights, but you could try underexposing the image, at least now in post-processing (PP). This may help reduce the dominance of the lights and bring more balance to the image. Just my thought   Posted: 10/06/2026 08:06:23
