November 2026 - Two flukes in Antartica
Original
About the Image(s)
Something different from me this month.....We went on a long cruise at the start of this year, starting/finishing in UK, circumnavigating South America - plus a week sailing to the Antartica Peninsula, but without getting off the ship (in Antartica). There were a huge number of nature loving photographers and I managed to avoid the sun beds! There is a lot to photograph from ship most days.
Anyway, one one of the days within the Peninsula there were a large number of humpback whales playing and feeding hard ahead of their migration north - I have a number of wildlife shots of them leaping in the air. But this to me typifies Antarctic, with the rear flukes just disappearing below the water with huge cliffs of ice behind - hopefully showing its scale.
The main image here is in colour - but I have added a mono version - I have had success with that in PTDW - I welcome any comments which is preferred.
Settings - taken with my Olympus OM-1 and 150-400 wildlife lens at 400mm (so FF 800mm) at 1/2,000 f6.3 ISO 210 after 1/3 stop exposure comp. All PP in Lightroom.
